We held our activity camp at Dare Valley Country Park this week and despite the worst of the weather they all had a ball!!!………
Day 1 was started by a welcome then everyone helping to set up the tents they would be sleeping in for the next 2 nights. It was a wet and muddy start but spirits were not dampened and everyone remained positive.
They then went off around the park on a girls v boys Team Orienteering challenge, which was fun. After lunch the children did some bushcraft and made wooden necklaces, then went into the wild woods for a shelter building challenge. To finish off day 1, despite the rain, they made a fire and had campfire marshmallows!! 🙂
Day 2 started even wetter, windier and muddier!!! 🙁 But everyone was still smiling!!
They spent the morning climbing the mountain which all enjoyed, because storm Doris was on her way, the young people were sleeping indoors on night 2 so they helped clean and take the tents down, then they had a go at archery and petting the rabbits on site. The day was finished off with a movie, in the dry and warm!!
Everyone was packed up, tired and ready to go home on Thursday morning but keen to come back again sometime soon. They were all so well behaved and polite, it was a pleasure for the ignite staff and communication support to be involved.
Many thanks to Callum, Rhys and Marc from Ignite up for organising the camp and to Jade Clarricoats & Lisa Evans who helped with the communication support. And a huge thank you to Trivallis for the grant funding, without which it would not have been possible to run the camp
The feedback from the young people was fantastic!! We hope to find funding and run another camp soon……..
