Level 1 Certificate in British Sign Language

Awarding Body: Signature

Duration: 20 weeks.   3-hour sessions.        

When:& Nbsp;Monday evening 5-8pm. 

Starting 13th May-22Ail July and then 9th September-18th November.

Please note that activities will be given to do during August

Venue: Cyngor Cymraeg am y Fyddar , Glenview House, Courthouse Street, Pontypridd, CF37 1JY

Price: Course fees £180.00.  Examination fee £100.00.  The exam is optional.

Course aim

This course is designed to enable learners to use basic language skills to communicate with Deaf people using British Sign Language (IAP Iaith Arwyddion Prydain) in a range of everyday situations.

Course objectives

At the end of the qualification, learners will be able to:

  • Use and build upon vocabulary and grammatical features
  • Communicate with Deaf people at a basic level about everyday life.
  • Have a short conversation on a given topic.

Course aim

This course is designed to enable learners to develop their skills to communicate with Deaf people using British Sign Language (IAP Iaith Arwyddion Prydain) in a range of everyday situations. The Level 2 course will enable development in functional BSL communication in more depth than at Level 1, requiring a wider grasp of grammar to cope with some non-routine language exchanges.

Course objectives

At the end of the qualification, learners will be able to:

  • Use and build upon vocabulary and grammatical features
  • Communicate with Deaf people at an intermediary level
  • Develop the skills to give a presentation in BSL on a particular subject
  • Understand and give advice on every day matters.
