Wales Council for Deaf People has 25 years’ experience in providing communication services throughout Wales in a wide range of domains, such as medical, employment and training.
  • We offer a quality service by supplying highly qualified and experienced communication professionals.
  • Our fees are competitive with no hidden extras.
  • We can advise you on Deaf issues and signpost you to the most appropriate communication support.
  • We have a 95% fulfilment rate on all communication bookings.
  • We offer a 24 hours’ service with an out of hours’ emergency number.
  • Whilst we prefer as much notice as possible, we will endeavour to provide someone at short notice.
We provide the following Communication Services:

British Sign Language (BSL) Interpreters

We only use NRCPD registered BSL interpreters which ensures that they have achieved, or are working towards, the National Occupational Standards. We can also provide BSL interpreters who are fluent Welsh speakers.

Lip-speakers

Lip-speakers convey a speaker’s message to lip-readers using unvoiced speech, whilst reproducing the rhythm and phrasing of speech together with facial expressions and gestures.

Translation Work

Written documents can be translated into BSL by Deaf presenters and BSL can also be translated into a written document.

Deafblind Interpreters

People with a dual sensory loss (Deafblind people) communicate in a variety of ways. We can provide interpreters with experience in Manual alphabet (spelling out the words on a Deafblind person’s hand), Hands On (placing their hands under a Deafblind person’s hands whilst signing) and Visual Frame (signing on a much smaller scale according to the person’s visual needs).

Speech to Text operators – Palantype

A Palantypist produces a word for word record of everything that is being said, including environmental sounds (such as laughter or applause) using a phonetic keyboard and the written message is displayed on a screen or monitor.
