Summary of the qualification’s purpose

The Signature Level 6 Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting and Translation (RQF) qualification aims to provide aspiring signed language interpreters and translators with the essential knowledge, understanding and skills for a career in the signed language interpreting and translation professions.

The theoretical model underpinning the structure of this qualification is based on a multimodal understanding of the translation process, which is defined as either ‘interlingual’ (across languages) or ‘intralingual’ (within the same language), and as either ‘intermodal’ (across modalities) or ‘intramodal’ (within the same modality).



This programme is specifically designed for candidates wanting to become interpreters or translators that feel they have reached a level of skill, knowledge and experience where they are now ready to put themselves forward to become fully qualified.


The programme comprises of Evidence collection advice, with a generous allocation of assessment time, enabling participants to meet with their assessor at regular intervals for 1-1 tutor/assessor contact time.


Tutors will also be allocated specific hours towards your development and includes marking, report writing, feedback to you etc. We also provide opportunities to practise skills and to collect some of the range of evidence required.


The full Interpreting or Translation Award comprises of mandatory units, together these units demonstrate occupational competence to translate in a range of work-related settings. Once all units have been assessed as successfully completed, the candidate will be eligible for both NRCPD as a RSLT and ASLI Full Member status.


You are guided through each unit i.e. Clear, detailed explanations of what is required and how to build your portfolio, guidance so that you know what information to include, a live observation with structured feedback.

Formal Evidence collection days can be arranged at the centre:- extra charge incurred.


Portfolios will be Internally Verified throughout the course.


External Verification will take place at our centre on an annual basis[approx], however, we are happy to arrange an individual verification but this carries an extra change.
