Students should have completed the Signature BSL Level 5 to enroll on this class, or have the skill at this level, (a skills assessment is carried out to ensure you are at the correct standard for this course) and ideally (although not essential) have used BSL on a regular basis.

Homework exercises will be given to do out of the classroom environment. This will include: Researching topics, signing practice, watching video clips to improve receptive skills etc.

Working towards NVQ Level 6 Language Development Training, practice sessions on a 1-1 basis. There will be structured 1 to 1 tutorials given during the course, to identify strengths & weaknesses in order to encourage improvement.

Organized external activities (paid for separately) to participate in to again develop signing & receptive skills. You will develop your skills on how to sustain signing at Level 6 for a given period of time to the standard required for this level.

Students will be encouraged to sign at all times, including lunch & coffee/tea breaks, as total immersion in the language will improve language development. A limited number of students will be accepted onto the course to allow quality 1-1 tutoring sessions to all students. Your work will be constantly assessed.

When completed, your skills will be assessed as to whether you are ready to progress to the Portfolio building part of the NVQ level 6.

Students are expected to do private study and project work throughout the course to reinforce classroom based learning.

Time is built into the course to allow filming of some evidence material required for your portfolio. Some sessions will be used to deliver structured 1 to 1 tutorials given during the course, to identify strengths & weaknesses in order to encourage improvement.
